Fox Creek Farm CSA
Is Fox Creek Farm CSA right for you? |
|
|
There
are many CSAs to choose from - and it may be difficult to select a CSA
that is right for you. We hope the information below makes it more clear
what you can expect when you join Fox Creek Farm's CSA.
Join a seasoned farm - Our CSA is going into its 9th season, and the vegetable growing experience on the farm reduces risks of crop failures for the shareholders. Our overall membership retention is better than 70%. Quality and quantity of produce - We grow almost exclusively for our CSA (with the exception of our wholesale garlic crop). Our CSA members are our first priority, and we harvest as close as possible to delivery of your produce. For example, last season we harvested sweet corn 3 hours before the pick-ups started! We believe that our CSA members support our farm, and we support our CSA members: we strive to provide our members with plentiful shares, that indeed can feed a family of four. We don't believe that because our produce is good and healthy you have to have less of it. We strive to give you your money's worth. Now offering Large and Medium shares - After years of questions by prospective CSA members, we decided to start offering a share tailored towards smaller households. So now there is an alternative to our regular full share, with the same great vegetables! No work requirement - Our CSA does not have a work requirement, and in our share are no additional fees or deposits related to work requirements. The farm is open to you during the season anytime, so you can see how we grow your vegetables - but you are not required to put in weekly or monthly volunteer time. Free u-pick, potlucks, events and member involvement - Members are encouraged to enjoy the farm site with a 100 acres to roam, and an extensive U-pick (free with CSA membership) of flowers, cherry tomatoes, and culinary herbs. Get a taste for farm work with our garlic harvest, or just meet the farmers and other members at farm potlucks. Your input to our CSA is always welcome, and our farm plan changes annually based on the results of our member end-of-season questionnaires. Support a working farm and support local employment - The farm is the only source of income for the farmers - and with that, we are entirely committed to our CSA instead of being torn by off-farm employment. On average, we employ 6 local part-time employees during the season, which makes the farm one of the bigger employers in the Town of Wright. Eating local - Fox Creek Farm CSA is at most 30 miles from your distribution site. Talk about local! Supporting the environment & eating organically - The farm takes a step beyond organic certification by promoting biodiversity, maintaining our soils and landscape, countering erosion and doing minimal, if any, organic spraying. Longer season - Members say that the worst thing about being a member of our CSA is when it ends and they have to go back to the supermarket. In 2012, we offer a winter storage share option to extend your season! At a reasonable price - Our CSA membership fee compare favorably to all other CSA farms in the area - while we are making good on all of the above. |
As part of our organic farming practices, we maintain a diverse ecosystem - as a result, many killdeer have taken residence on the farm. This is one of their nests |
